Stephen A. Smith On Deontay Wilder: He Was Thoroughly Outboxed, Mauled, Beat Up | Sports Takes & News | TooAthletic.com
Tyson Fury was a decided underdog heading into his matchup with Deontay Wilder, a rematch of a fight that ended in a draw in 2018. Fury knocked the defending champion down multiple times before Wilder’s corner threw in the towel in the seventh round, making Fury the new champion. The lead up to the fight was bizarre, with Fury filming bizarre videos of him working out in his living room and a healthy amount of talking going back and forth between the two fighters. The result between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder was one sided, however, and the result left First Take host Stephen A. Smith shaken.
“I’ve been having nightmares. I can’t get over what I saw. Let me give Tyson Fury credit for nothing short of pure brilliance. He beat Deontay Wilder before he even got in the ring,” Stephen A. Smith said. “Ladies and gentlemen, that was an ass kicking. It was bad… the reality of the situation is he was thoroughly outboxed, he was mauled, he was beat up, he was schooled in such a flagrant fashion I mean I sat there completely and totally shell shocked.”
Wilder has a clause in his contract that he can use to automatically trigger a rematch, and I’d expect him to do so because of the payday. But if he doesn’t find a way to get to the big man, he’s just settling in for another beating.
