Stephen A. Smith Breaks Down The Impact Reggie Jackson Will Have On The Clippers | Sports Takes & News | TooAthletic.com
Reggie Jackson’s tenure with the Detroit Pistons has come to an end, with a contract buyout terminating his commitment there. The Pistons are continuing to shed payroll, having dealt Andre Drummond before the deadline, and now kicking Jackson to the curb after he missed most of the season with a back injury is their latest move. Upon clearing waivers, Reggie Jackson has expressed that he intends to join the Los Angeles Clippers. Thus, eschewing an opportunity to join up with LeBron and Anthony Davis on the Lakers. What does this mean for the Western Conference race? Stephen A. Smith weighed in on First Take.
“You’ve got a situation now where the Clippers now have a backup point guard you can put in pick and roll situations, you’ve still got a fourth body in Marcus Morris that can defend LeBron James,” Smith said. “If you’re the Lakers, it’s clear you’re riding the LeBron James Anthony Davis wave, and I believe their A game, they can beat anybody. The problem is, at 35 years of age, you’re in your 17th season, and fresh bodies are being thrown at you over the course of 48 minutes.”
Depth is going to bury the Lakers. Two great guys, even ones that great, are not enough for a string of seven game series against tough opponents. They will wear you down.
