Los Angeles has assembled a new sports “dream team,” but instead of having them play basketball, this win-at-all-cost roster is playing for the Rams. Already considered an “all in” team when they traded for quarterback Matthew Stafford, LA fans will now have wide receiver Odell Beckham, Jr. catching passes in a Rams’ uniform as the franchise looks to play the Super Bowl on their home field this February. However, it is the signing of OBJ that has me no longer able to root for the Rams to win it all.

Let’s face it, Odell Beckham, Jr. has a proven track record of being a me-first player who doesn’t mind complaining if he is not getting what he wants. OBJ could have been a superstar in New York with the Giants but he was too selfish for even the Big Apple to stomach him, so he was traded to Cleveland in 2019 as part of their rebuild.
Fast forward to 2021, and despite 2 1/2 underwhelming seasons with the Browns, Beckham still expected the star treatment from the Browns. And when he wasn’t getting it, the wideout forced his way off the team.
Odell Beckham, Jr. earned his reputation as being a star from making one-handed catches when he very often didn’t need to. He did this, thanks in no small part to the performance-enhancing gloves that almost every wide receiver wear in today’s NFL. For whatever reason, however, his physical gifts still supersede his inability to get along with people around him who don’t give him everything he wants all the time. Front offices and head coaches will tell you that they try to win every game, yet with all his talents and gifts, Odell Beckham, Jr. has worn out his welcome in two cities already in his career … now the LA Rams think he can help them win Super Bowl LVI.
The Los Angeles Lakers needed to bring in a legend to hoist another championship trophy and try to recapture the greatest they once had. Yet, for anyone in LA to think that bringing in Odell Beckham, Jr. is anywhere near bringing LeBron James to town, think again.
OBJ is there for OBJ, first and foremost.
He may be able to behave himself for the second half of the 2021 NFL season and for as long as the Rams are in the playoff hunt; but make no mistake, if the team continues to win without OBJ posting video game numbers, people will hear about how unhappy he is. You may not hear about it until after the season is over, but trust me, you will hear about how OBJ was sold a false bill of goods if he doesn’t get the ball enough even if the LA Rams win the title this year.
I had been wrong about the Rams this year since I didn’t believe Matthew Stafford would find himself in their offense. Honestly, I was happy to be wrong since the Rams were, up until this week, a solid team who was fun to watch and would be easy to root for against almost any other team in the league. However, with Odell Beckham, Jr. donning their uniform, I am no longer rooting for the LA Ram to win this season, because I feel a diva receiver should NEVER be able to complain his way off one team and onto a title winner.
The LA Rams had a good thing going this year, and now OBJ’s in town, the same OBJ who was banned by his college after handing out cash to the players … if this is the way the Los Angeles Rams want to win a title, that’s their choice. But I, for one, am no longer rooting for them to do so in 2021, because Odell Beckham, Jr. doesn’t deserve it, and now the Rams don’t either.
