New York Guardians (that’s an XFL team) quarterback Matt McGloin of Penn State was having a terrible first half against the DC Defenders (this is the best they could do), getting off to a 5/13 start with no touchdowns and an interception. McGloin was clearly uncomfortable in the pocket, and as he ran in to the locker room for halftime he was stopped by a sideline reporter, and he didn’t hesitate to unload, saying, “It’s embarrassing for us as an offense… we need to change the whole entire gameplan.” Mics on the sidelines later caught him referring to it as the worst game he’s ever been a part of. Former Jet Bart Scott was on ESPN’s morning show Get Up, and he thought the speech was a poor decision by McGloin.
“It looks awful. You’re supposed to be the CEO of that team… you’re supposed to take ownership of this. It’s early in the season, how are you gonna throw everybody under the bus,” Scott said, clearly dismayed by the poor attitude the quarterback put on display. “That was raw stupidity, because he is on a ticking clock right now.”
McGloin went on to throw another interception on the day, so we’ll assume the offense didn’t get the overhaul he was looking for. Bad offense or not, maybe he should avoid throwing it to the other team. New York lost 27-0, but nobody cares because it’s the XFL. Just one more bad football team in New York.
