For the first time in National Hockey League history, both number one seeded teams have been eliminated in the opening round of the playoffs.
The first time ever!
The NHL is pretty damn old being founded in the 1960s with the original six teams.
The Calgary Flames where eliminated by the Colorado Avalanche Friday night to make the second of both number one seeds to be eliminated. The second of these teams was when the Tampa Bay Lightning were eliminated by the Columbus Blue Jackets earlier in the week. This is certainly historic and it will be extremely interesting to see how both the Avalanche and Blue Jackets fair in their respect second round matchups.
The Avalanche will either face off against the San Jose Sharks or the Las Vegas Golden Knight. Either team will be a test but as of now the Golden Knights lead the series 3 games to two. The Blue Jackets also have a test in the second round facing either the Boston Bruins or the Toronto Maple Leaf’s. That series currently sits with Toronto leading three games to Boston’s two.
