The NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs are underway and they have been quite a surprise to even the most knowledge hockey fans.
Let’s start with the impossible actually being quite possible. The Columbus Blue Jackets are up three games over the Tampa Bay Lightning. This is not so incredible until you realize that the Lightning held the best record for the entire season and a number one seed spot heading into the first round against the Blue Jackets, who took the final wild card slot. Knocking out the Lightning this early will surely upset the matchups going forward. The next matchup that could possibly decide the series takes place Tuesday, April 16th at 7pm eastern time.
Another holy-shit-is-this-real playoff series is going on between the New York Islanders and Pittsburgh Penguins with the Islanders leading the Flightless Birds three games to none. Okay, the Lightning had the best record and they’re getting crushed, but this is the Pittsburgh Penguins! This team has won three Stanley Cups in the last decade but cannot seem to get a win on this Islanders hockey club in the first round. The fourth and possibly final game in this series is schedule for Tuesday, April 16th at 7:30pm eastern time.
The playoff landscape will change decisively if both the Lightning and Penguins are knocked out early making the rest of the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs into one hell of a spectacle to behold.
