Just like that, Russell Wilson becomes the highest paid player in the NFL. 4 years, $140 million. Wilson is now tied in with Seattle until the 2023 season with this extension and was rewarded a fat $65 million signing bonus.
The contract also includes a no-trade clause which appears to be fine by Wilson as he is reportedly happy to be staying in Seattle now that he is getting paid what he feels he deserves, breaking Aaron Rodgers’ contract record.
Is Russell Wilson worth more than Aaron Rodgers? No chance, but that wasn’t the purpose of this extension.
Wilson proved last season with a lesser talented team, than maybe he’s ever been on, that the most important thing come playoff time is the elite level QB, and that is the only reason they had a chance. Seattle recognized that, granted it was at the very last minute, but regardless they did recognize it and made the right move.
Russell Wilson is not the best player in the NFL, but he is now being paid like he is.
