With only a few more series still on going, the first round of the NHL Playoffs is coming to a close.  Let’s take a look at what happened Monday night.

There were only two game sixes Monday night.  One between the cup defending Washington Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes and the other between the Dallas Stars and Nashville Predators.

The Stars were able to take the series in an overtime win, defeating the Predators 2 – 1 to move on to the second round.  The Stars had been dominating the series up until this point and will look to keep that momentum going into the second round against the St. Louis Blues.  The dates and times for that series, as well as all series in the second round, have yet to be announced.

Game six between the Capitals and Hurricanes will go to a game seven after the Hurricanes were able to fend off elimination, beating the Capitals 5 – 2.  It’s amazing that the Hurricanes have been able to hold off the defending Stanley Cup champs for this long and if they can pull out a win in the series it will top off an extremely historic first round.
